Driver Gassing Up On Shoulder Of I-270 Killed In Rockville Crash: Maryland State Police

A 36-year-old Virginia man had just pulled over on a Montgomery County highway to gas up his car when he was struck and killed shortly before dawn on New Year’s Day, Maryland State Police said.

Caesar Adigwe Jr., 36, of Spotsylvania, Virginia, was pulled over on the shoulder attempting to put gas in his vehicle and was struck by a Nissan driven by Aaliyah Brown, 22, of Clarksburg, Maryland, according to officials.

The crash occurred on the northbound side of I-270 prior to Old Georgetown Road just before 5 a.m.

Adigwe was taken to Suburban Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

I-270 was temporarily closed for the investigation, officials noted. Assisting agencies include the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration and the Montgomery County Fire Department.

The investigation is being led by the Maryland State Police Crash Team.
